The Academy Hill Neighborhood Association, Inc. began as a not for profit community organization in 1994. It was started by a small group of neighbors who showed interest in neighbors houses and shared information while they were out walking their dogs.

After much hard work, dedication, and fundraising the neighborhood association was named to the national register of historic places. The official name changed to Academy Hill Historic District in 1999. The original certificate is on display in the Huff Mansion, commonly known as the YWCA, at the bottom of the staircase in the front parlor.
